Our Programs

ASPIRANT (18yrs+)

Our Aspirant Professional Program offers trained dancers age 18-22yrs the opportunity to fine-tune their technique and artistic skills in preparation for a company placement. Aspirant trainees must have graduated high school and successfully attained an Advanced 2 level (or similar) qualification in Classical Ballet. They need to show proficiency in Contemporary styles of dance and have knowledge and experience in one or more body movement patterning methods such as: Pilates, Gyrotonic or Gyrokinesis, Feldenkrais, Yoga for Dancers, Myofascial Release, Alexander Technique to name a few.

Our faculty is proactive in assisting Aspirants in selecting suitable options for audition throughout the year. This may be for Post Graduate placement, Trainee positions or Company contracts around the world. Our teachers and resources are extensive in the genres of classical ballet, contemporary ballet and contemporary and stretch from North and South America to Europe.

The Aspirant Professional Program fosters young talent on the bridge of entering the professional world of dance. This program is designed around the individual dancer and supports one to two years of additional training and performance experience.

An audition is required.

ADVANCED (15yrs+)

Our Advanced Professional Training Program is for the serious/full-time dancer aged 15yrs+ who is training to improve technical ability and artistic performance. This program offers young dancers the opportunity to showcase themselves as part of a Corps de Ballet or as a Soloist or Principal Dancer in our seasonal performances/productions. Students gain experience similar to that of a professional ballet company, working together with choreographers, professional artists and directors to produce full-length ballets throughout the year.

An audition is required to evaluate physical, mental and emotional attributes needed for classical ballet together with a healthly medical history. All Advanced students are required to complete the ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet Vocational examinations during their five year training period. Select students are offered the opportunity to participate in provincial, national and international competitions and represent the school on a global platform.

Advanced students benefit from additional training in: Plyometrics, Pas de Deux and Contemporary Ballet Choreography. At this level of training these aspects of dance and cross-training are essential for the progression of development for dancers pursuing a professional career.

The program is divided into two levels:
– Level 5 (Advanced 1 or similar)
– Level 6 (Advanced 2 or similar)

Most students spend two years in each level before graduating in their final year at 17/18yrs. Advanced students in their graduating year are prepared and encouraged to audition for Post Graduate, Trainee and Company positions around the world. Our faculty is proactive in assisting final year students with suitable options for audition in person or via video.

This intense training program prepares boys and girls for a professional career in dance. It is essential that students and parents are fully committed to the teaching and guidance of the program in order to maintain its integrity.

An audition is required.

INTERMEDIATE (10yrs+)

Our Intermediate Professional Training Program is for the serious/full-time dancer aged 10yrs+ who shows potential in developing high-level skills in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance.

This program offers young dancers the opportunity to showcase themselves as part of a Junior Corps de Ballet or in children’s lead roles in our seasonal performances/productions. Students gain experience similar to that of a professional ballet company, working together with choreographers, professional artists and directors to produce full-length ballets throughout the year.

An audition is required to evaluate physical, mental and emotional attributes needed for classical ballet together with a healthly medical history. All Intermediate students are required to complete the ISTD Imperial Classical Ballet Vocational examinations during their five year training period starting with the Intermediate exam.

The program consists of one level:
– Level 4 (Intermediate or similar)

Most students remain in Level 4 for two years or until they are ready to move into the advanced stages of training and performing. At Intermediate level our students are either starting Pointe or have completed one year of Pointe and are entering into performing enPointe on stage. A Pointe Assessment, designed by physiotherapists, is conducted before any student is invited to start Pointe work.

This intense training program prepares boys and girls for the advanced levels of dance in both Classical Ballet and Contemporary. It is essential that students and parents are fully committed to the teaching and guidance of the program in order to maintain its integrity.

An audition is required.

SUMMER INTENSIVE (2023)

Each year students come from all over the world to participate in our Summer Intensive Program. We offer training from both: our Faculty teachers, giving students the opportunity to experience the training received at Ballet Bloch, together with invited Master Teachers. The training, during the intensive, aims to improve Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance. Past years have seen guest teachers including: Stephanie Saland, Aram Manukyan, Monica Proenca, Mariana Moraes, Joshua Beamish, Kara Chan, Madeleine Gilbert and Brandon Lee Alley.

This Summer (2023), Ballet Bloch offers two weeks of intense training with various guest teachers and faculty members.

Intensive Dates:
AUG 21 – SEP 1

Training focuses on: Classical Ballet, Pointe, Classical Repertoire, Contemporary Ballet, Contemporary, Pilates, Gyrotonic, Yoga for Dancers and Pas de Deux (for experienced dancers).

The program is designed for two levels:
– Intermediate (10yrs+)
– Advanced (15yrs+)

An audition is required.

JUNIOR BALLET (7yrs+)

The Junior Ballet Program is for the young dancer age 7yrs+ who is interested in exploring the disciplines of Classical Ballet. Boys and girls are taught in a creative yet focused environment that nurtures young minds and bodies. Children who love to dance and aspire to work on poise, posture, and discipline together with technique, musicality, and artistry are encouraged to participate . A minimum of twice a week is required and students (if ready) are encouraged to enter an ISTD or RAD ballet exam each year.

The program is divided into three levels:
– Level 1 (Ballet: Grade 1 or similar)
– Level 2 (Ballet: Grade 2 or similar)
– Level 3 (Ballet: Grade 3 & 4 or similar)

This program is designed to train young boys and girls to a higher level of ability, offering them the opportunity to progress to Intermediate and Advanced levels. We aim to ignite the love of dance in every child and build their self-confidence.

Junior Ballet students participate throughout the year in our seasonal performances/productions which offer them exciting roles that feed their imaginations and dreams of being a dancer.

SUMMER CAMP (7yrs+)

Our Summer Camps are an exciting opportunity for children to discover their love of dance. Classes in basic body and movement awareness together with classical ballet allow boys and girls to explore their creative side. They will learn about the history of ballet, create crafts related to ballet, and engage in developing their own steps inspired by the music.

Parents are invited to an informal Zoom viewing on the last day of camp where they can enjoy watching their children share what they have learnt and achieved during the week.

Our Summer Camp is designed for Junior level ballet children, both boys and girls.

PRE-BALLET (3-4yrs & 5-6yrs)

Children aged 3-6yrs attend classes once a week. Our young ballerina program encourages age appropriate creativity, musicality, and physicality. Children gain confidence, poise, and a solid frame work on which to build classical ballet technique. The class is 45min and parents are welcome to remain and/or participate in the class to help get their little ones accustomed to being in a group activity.

The program offers boys and girls the opportunity to present informal in-house/Zoom performances for their parents each term.

Classes take place on Saturday mornings.

No audition is required.

NSAD PROGRAMS

2020 marks the coming together of Ballet Bloch Canada and North Shore Academy of Dancing in one location, offering multiple programs.

North Shore Academy of Dancing is an Industry-based dance school that provides training in genres such as: Acro, Broadway, Contemporary, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, ISTD Modern, RAD Ballet, and Preschool Dance. The wide range of dance disciplines create a platform for multiple programs, offering dancers a future in Industry: Music Videos, Commercials and Movies; Production: Broadway Musicals and Theatre; Profession: dance company’s, creating choreography or teaching dance. Classes are available for ages 3 years to Adults.

For dancers who love to perform, the Performance Program provides opportunities to participate in competitions and explore choreography in a solo, duo, trio or group setting throughout the Lower Mainland. NSAD provides a rich environment where a wide range of learning possibilities are accessible to dancers of all skill levels. Through training at NSAD, students learn to develop poise, grace, self-confidence & self-worth, and, most importantly, discipline of both mind and body. These attributes benefit the dancer, not only during their critical years of childhood and adolescence, but throughout their lifetime.
