Tracy-Lea Bloch talks passionately about her latest project in a soft South African accent which matches her most graceful job.
As artistic director and founder of Lower Lonsdale dance academy Ballet Bloch Canada, she has taken a beloved holiday tradition, The Nutcracker, and turned it slightly on its ear.
“What I’m trying to do is tap in to what people enjoy,” explains Bloch. “Some love the ballet, some like a bit more of a beat.”
PERFORMANCES
The Nutcracker
Children in and around Vancouver participate every year in our Nutcracker production – a beloved holiday tradition celebrated through the beauty of dance and music. We foster a coming together of all dance schools and performing genre to build a shared community in dance. Our open auditions on Saturday 19 September offer dancers many opportunities from: young ballerina roles as Mice and Bon-Bons, to Corps de Ballet experience in Snowflakes and Flowers, to lead characters like Clara, Rat Queen and Nutcracker Doll/Prince. The beautiful Dream Clara and exquisite Sugarplum Fairy gain experience and exposure in Pas de Deux (partnering work). A magical production that offers performances in December.
Register to audition and share the stage to mark this extraordinary event. An exciting Christmas story for the whole family.
